Physical Therapy
I have been a pediatric physical therapist since I graduated from Eastern Washington University, in 2012.
Prior to moving to Bend in 2016, I worked at an Early Intervention Clinic, in Washington, treating a wide variety of developmental delays in children ages birth to three years old. After having three children of my own and experiencing firsthand the challenges of nursing, I developed a deep passion for supporting mothers and babies through breastfeeding difficulties.
I specialize in providing holistic care for infants, integrating Craniosacral Therapy (CST) alongside Physical Therapy to address a wide range of developmental and feeding challenges. My training includes assessing high-risk infants (such as those born prematurely or with complications during labor and delivery), as well as expertise in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) Therapy and the Tummy Time Method.
Nicole Marshall, PT, DPT
I believe in taking a comprehensive approach to infant care, by not only addressing immediate concerns, but also identifying and treating the root causes of issues like nursing difficulties, body tension and developmental delays. My goal is to build strong, trusting relationships with families and to deliver individualized, evidence-based care of the highest quality.
Did you know that current evidence shows that tummy time is highly beneficial for newborns? It helps babies develop essential neck and shoulder strength, improves head control, and likely prevents conditions like flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly). Additionally, tummy time sets the stage for future motor milestones, such as rolling, sitting, crawling, and walking.
Tummy time can be started right after birth and is recommended for at least 30 to 60 minutes per day by 12 weeks old. Additionally, there are a few signs to watch out for that may suggest your baby could benefit from physical therapy and bodywork, including:
Does your baby:
· Tend to only turn or tilt their head to one side only
· Sleep with their mouth open
· Have red creases on their neck and/or in their armpits
· Nurse better on one breast vs. the other
· Hate tummy time
I am available to see pre-crawling infants that have already established with Nourish Lactation who are experiencing feeding challenges, plagiocephaly, torticollis, and those who dislike tummy time. Each of these issues can be interconnected, and my goal is to provide support and guidance to help address both feeding and developmental concerns.
Together, we can create a plan that suits your baby's needs and promotes their overall wellbeing. Schedule an appointment by calling Nourish Lactation at (541) 306-4299 or emailing greetings@nourishbend.com.
